One Voice

One Voice

T

oday, I want to share a cartoon with you that I drew while I lived at the Zen monastery. It’s based on an allegorical conversation between a coalmouse and a wild dove. I thought it would be a perfect way to bring in the New Year since it speaks to the potential each of us has inside to make a tremendous difference in the world through our participation.

Here’s a little background information to help you appreciate it a bit more: When I drew this cartoon, I had already been publishing a weekly cartoon series entitled The Voices. It was about the voices in our heads that cause us so much dissatisfaction and trouble. So the title “One Voice” for this particular cartoon symbolized something very different to my readers. One Voice was meant to represent your one, true authentic voice—the powerful one who speaks up beyond the mind chatter. I wanted this cartoon to wake people up to the incredible capacity they have to make good changes in the world.

I wanted it to say—use your energy to create suffering or peace. It’s really up to you. Don’t believe the naysayers (real or in your head) who say that what you do doesn’t matter. Because it surely does.

❤️🙏✨🎉 Happy New Year! 🎉✨🙏❤️
